Making image look like a open magazine

I need to make an image look like a open magazine. Any tips or a tutorial? I have the flat image, but I need it to look like it is in a magazine.

Nice tutorial J Maloney,

Thanks.

Center of an image

Is there a simple way of adding a horizontal and vertical guide to show the center of an image?Center of an image
When you create the guides type in 50% for the horizontal and vertical values.Center of an image
Great.

Thanks
This can be made into an Action as well and tied to an F key combo.
Grab these actions:

ADDENDUM/CAUTION: I seem to remember something about the ''TicTacToe'' action in that set being inaccurate, so you may want to ditch it. Gotta save the new version out of Photoshop and upload it to my server space. I'll have to do that later...

Is it possible to change the color of the background in FUllscreen Mode with Menu Bar in CS

    Cheers

    Change bacground color in Fullscreen...
Frankly, I don't remember if that was possible in CS, as the full screen mode is something I avoid anyhow.

Try Shift-Clicking with the paint ****** (set to the color of your choice) on the apron (what we've come to call the space surrounding the canvas).

In CS4 you just Control-Click (right click) on the apron to get the Contextual menu that allows you to change the color. I don't think CS had such a contextual menu, but as I said, I'm not sure.

    Healing Brush

I would like to have any tutorial that prevents the bleeding of the Healing Brush when near a very different color or density area.

I heard that in ''Photoshop User'' one tutorial appeard about this problem, but never saw it.

I would appreciate very much any help, because every time that I get into the problem I have to go to the Clone Tool.

I have tried everything in my knowledge of Photoshop and I would like to know if there is an answer to my question or this is a flaw that Adobe has not dealt with, yet.

Thanks in advance. Is a pleasure to write in a forum that is so elegant and professional.

    Healing Brush
The gist of it: make a selection of the area you are trying to heal, so the selection excludes the color bleeding in.

And make sure you are using a hard edged brush -- soft edged brushes tend to make the healing worse.

The healing brush works, sort of, by bleeding in color from the edges to replace the color you are trying to eliminate - making it smooth again. If the edges aren't smooth, the healing brush does it's best to guess what the interior should be, but it aims for smooth results and can't know the exact color that should be there.

Yup, this is the way we have liked it for years and we're enjoying it while we can. Changes are scheduled for April that not all of us will be happy with. :/ We'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks a lot Chris, but it looks like there is no solution, at least not the one that I would like. Just to make sure, I just did what you just said (which, by the way, I had already tried) and got the annoying bleeding that I was talking about. Of course the procedure minimizes the bleeding, but not completely. My work is photography retouching, image restoration, image enhancing and high quality printing, and I'm also very demanding to myself.

Well, anyway I appreciate very much your attention, and thank you for it.

Ramè´¸n, I hope this great forum stays the same. Let's hope for the best.

The previews of similar forums to which we have been pointed don't leave much room for hope. :( As long as performance doesn't suffer, it'll be OK.

Help! Can you retrieve deleted files at...

I'm running photoshop CS2 on a mac osx 10.5.1. I accidentally dragged a photoshop image i was working on into the trash and deleted it. Is there anywhere in photoshop or on my mac where info on this file may be saved? I really would love it back. Thanks!
Help! Can you retrieve deleted files at...
Did you empty the trash? If not, open the trash can. If you did empty the trash, then the file is probably gone for good.
Help! Can you retrieve deleted files at...
yes i did empty the trash unfortunately. i figured i was doomed, but thought i'd try to find out whether there was any way files get saved somewhere even if they get deleted in trash.

If you didn't do a ''secure empty trash'' and haven't used the computer at all since then it should be possible ot scavenge the disk and possibly get your file back.

With all the trouble it will take it might be better to just redo the work.

    alan

What ever happened to programs like 'UnErase''? If files are deleted and the drive has not been written to, then those files are still there, with just a 'flag' at the file's header marking it as invisible and ok to be overwritten (the result of emptying the trash.) A program like 'UnErase' would simply go through flagged files marked for deletion and make them visible and restored again.

Too bad no one has kept up with keeping that simple utility available to all of us. It should be a part of the standard apple toolkit.

Of course, there is the better way to operate, to prevent sobs and buckets of tears, and that is to make backups. Get an external drive and slop everything over to it at regular intervals with copies of everything you are working on that you do not want to lose forever.

There are several (a bunch?) image recovery programs, some of them come included in CF cads and such. The key is not to work on that particular drive at all until you have retrieved your image. Connect from another Mac in target mode if necessary. You can then treat your Mac as an external drive to run the recovery software on it.

But, yes, anybody caught without a backup frankly deserves the grief. :/

Data Rescue II is excellent software

Running Leopard without Time Machine is like riding a GSXR750 on side streets in only first gear.

''but thought i'd try to find out whether there was any way files get saved somewhere even if they get deleted in trash.''

GOod NEws: Your files do get saved, by you, as your regular backup routine. Simply go to your backup files and retrieve your files there. You can even give yourself a pat on the back for making regular backups of the files you are working on.

    Reese,

There is an old saw about saving and backups: never allow a file to go unsaved or unbacked up any longer than you care to spend recreating it.

Aside from doing regular backups (Time Machine, SuperDuper!...), you should update your OS to 10.5.6.

  • Hi, In need of help creating a simple...

Attached is an image which shows more or less the effect I am needing to achieve.

    http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn149/Jaybeedubya/FotoliaComp_635945_xs3N3VFL wPNTIOm1.jpg

I created the image above by desaturating the colour image of the man and then adding a new purple layer and selecting 'vivid light' from the layer palette drop down box. In doing this the man became purple but the white area surrounding him stayed white...I then adjusted the layers on the first layer so that the white part became purple - the final result is what you see in the attached image.

The problem is this - I need to create this effect for 15 or so images all with a specific purple pantone colour, I need to create these for print ready artwork. All the pictures (ie the man) I will be using, need to look the same kind of shade. The way I was creating these before was to adjust the bottom layer so its grey rather than white so that the white area becomes purple.

Confusing huh, If you dont understand my question (and I dont blame you!) then all I need is to create a set of 15 images that look like the attached image (using a specific pantone) but I have no idea how the best way to do it is.

How would you guys achieve that? Any help greatly appreciated.
Hi, In need of help creating a simple...
What are Your output-needs? Will the images be output from Indesign or Photoshop directly? How many colors will be used in the printing process? Because if the background color is supposed to be a solid area of the Pantone-color, will the photographic parts be printed in CMYK or as Spot Colors? If You do work for print You should probably create a Duotone or a file with Spot Channel(s).

But as for achieving that in RGB:

One could create an Adjustment Layer to make the image black and white (either Hue Saturation of Black %26amp; White for example), a Curves-Adjustment Layer to control the contrast, a Solid Color-layer of the dark blue-color and set that to Blending Mode Color (if no black areas turn up increase the contrast in the Curves-Layer), then a Solid Color-layer of the lighter violet and set it to Blending Mode Multiply.

Those Layers could then be simply dragged onto any other images.

But the result would of course be no good for printing in actual Spot Colors.
Hi, In need of help creating a simple...
This is going to be a CMYK plus spot job. If you run this a just spot or duotone is will look flat.

Hi and thanks, it's going to be for print %26amp; I will be using the images in an indesign document - the final print may be from a hi res PDF. I guess when it comes to printing, I will be able to specify what I want.

The company this project is for have a certain corporate dark purple colour (of which I would like the 'man' to be mostly made from) and the lighter surrounding purple can be any pantone of my choosing.

Anyone know the best way to go about creating this?

So its gonna be a two-color-job?

Because with the extreme depths adding Black at least might be beneficial.

You could make a Selection of a black%26amp;white-version-of-the-photographs luminance, inverse it and, in the Channels-Panels PopUp-menu, choose Add New Spot Channel for the Foreground color and select the Pantone color.

Then Add New Spot Channel for the background-color and fill that solid black and hide the layers that contain the composite of the photograph.

This should leave You with blank composite channels and the two Spot Channels visible.

Indesign can handle either psd- or DCS2-files containing Spot Channels.

The problem I perceive here is that depending on the print-process and the background color selected it might proof necessary to knock out the foreground elements if the company is very strict on their CI colors. Unfortunately simply inversing the foreground selection would probably not work as this might leave the mixed-color-areas greyish.

Are the prints gonna be offset or silkscreen?

Hi, No it's not a 2 colour job...Theres more to the design, this image is just a part of it that i'm not sure how to tackle.

I'm pretty sure it will be offset.

I'm not a photoshop pro so I will try and follow your instructions - thanks very much for that! Any additional info tips or input would be much appreciated!

But just to make sure: Your customers Pantone Color is gonna be printed as a Spot Color, so the jobs price has definitely been estimated for 5-color-printing?

(It seems that oftentimes one gets a Pantone-definition even if the actual product will be printed in CMYK and some customers seem patently unwilling to comprehend the unattainability of certain Pantone colors in process.)

Because if You can use the 4 process-colors You might consider printing the background color as process, too, just to save costs.

    reinstalling photoshop

I am getting error messages that say ''some files are missing that PS needs to run''. So, I need to reinstall. I'm fairly new to MAC. I have a power mac that is over one year old running tiger 10.4.11. Bridge seems to work ok. Do I just drag Photoshop out of Finder into the trash and put my CS3 disk in? Is that all there is to it?reinstalling photoshop
You must uninstall CS3 using the uninstaller then reinstall.

read this first it may solve your problem. http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.2ccf1da6 although its hard to say with so little info you have supplied.reinstalling photoshop
Thank you, Buko. I was trying not to write a rambling question. I have a MAC Pro running 10.4.11 and PS CS3. The problem started after I tried to do one of the Apple Updates. Bridge works fine, Photoshop opens but won't open files and says ''one or more files Photoshop needs to run are missing''. When I put my CS3 disk in and click on ''Setup'', there is the option to install or reinstall. I guess the crux of the problem is I'm worried that if I delete or uninstall Photoshop and Bridge, I might lose my photo files in Bridge. Can't I just do the ''reinstall'' and have it fix what it needs to repair and leave everything else intact?
    you can try
I did the ''reinstall'' and it worked fine. then I downloaded all the updates from the last year or so. This is what I would have done when I had PCs but I was worried Mac was different because a guy in our mall's Apple store said I couldn't do that and that I had to delete Photoshop. But I just didn't want to do that. Thanks again for your help.
%26gt;I'm worried that if I delete or uninstall Photoshop and Bridge, I might lose my photo files in Bridge.

No, you won't unless you have saved files inside the Bridge or Photoshop folder, a highly unlikely possibility.
