PS CS3 Crashes on Startup after...

I had PS CS but then upgraded to OS X Leopard which stopped working - so I got CS3.



I installed CS3 successfully but when I try to run the program for the first time, the 'splash screen' loads fully and brings up the PS toolbars and panels... however if you mouseover anything related to PS, the 'beachball' is all you get. It spins infinitely until you 'force quit' the program (it does not crash on it's own).



What I tried:

1. I heard that the TWAIN driver can be problematic and renaming the file in the plugins folder from TWAIN.plugin to ~TWAIN.plugin forces it not to load and solves many peoples problems.



Did it. Didn't help.



2. I heard that it can be related to User Preferences. So I created a new user and tried to load PS under that user... same problem.



Anyone have ANY ideas?????

Crashes and hangs are very, very different things - do not confuse them.

And, unfortunately, you didn't post a useful portion of the hang report.



How long did you wait to see if the hang might clear?



Why are you running 10.0 and not 10.0.1? (the updater should fire off independently of Photoshop)



A hang after the UI draws could be related to activation, or a corrupt typeface. Reinstalling might help, or removing any third party fonts you installed.

I just installed it, so perhaps it hasn't had time to check for an update since technically it's never loaded successfully.



As for the fonts... I probably have installed one or two in the past... would this cause a hang in the 'splash screen' or after when the panels come into view?

How did you validate the fonts? If you used Apple's Font Book to do it, be advised that it misses a bunch of problem fonts, as does Font Doctor.



FontAgent Pro (FAP) is pretty good at ferreting out bad and duplicate fonts. There's a fully functional 30-day demo/trial version.



Duplicate fonts can be as bad as corrupted fonts.

I can't seem to figure out how to remove the duplicates. 'Resolve Duplicates' in Font Book does not remove or fix them. I downloaded FontAgent Pro but really don't know how to use it. I have to import fonts to a folder and the duplicates go to a 'special folder' - but this doesn't actually do anything to the original fonts (doesn't this add to the duplicate problem ?) I really have no idea how to use that program and the Quick Start Guide isn't much assistance.

Correct. All duplicates are quarantined in that folder so that they can't conflict with the working version.



Then you need to disable Font Book so that you only have FAP as your sole Font manager.

Ok, I installed FontAgent Pro and imported all fonts with the program. Deactivated 'Fonts with Errors' and still get the same results... :(



So I dug into the Console to check the error logs and found this associated with the Photoshop CS3 hangs:

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Odd, the logs you posted show lots of apple apps running, but don't show Photoshop running at all.



As for the console error - that looks like you have a bad install, of the app or the OS.
