What software to use for logo for Web...

I'm designing a logo for a web site that includes both photos and text. I have created the text in outlines in Illustrator and used Photoshop for the photos.



Which program should I use to combine the text and photos to make one image?



Should the photos be made into low res jpegs before combining with text or after combining with the text?

If you only need to do the graphic for one instance I would choose Photoshop and place the Vector stuff as a Smart Object. What is the desired file format?

I'd optimize the image and text for the size you will use it at 100%.

I'd optimize the image and text for 100% size. Be aware that you should use a high-quality .jpg, otherwise artifacts, particularly around linework or type, will be obvious. (And .gifs aren't ideal for photo-type images.)
